October has been a very busy month for us at St. Francis Animal Resource Center. We started out with a full first weekend, including making up tons of cute treat bags with our business cards on them to hand out at events and help us get our message out there while also giving your pets something yummy to snack on.
On Saturday the 5th, we went to Wells Family Christmas Tree Farm for their Christmas Market. We had an information booth and Pig, Mandy's dog, was our assistant and gave kisses and got belly rubs. We will be getting part of the entrance fees donated back to St. Francis to help us care for people's pets. It was a fun and great event with lots of different vendors, a beautiful setting, and they even had puppy yoga!
Also on Saturday, the 5th, we attended the St. Francis blessing of the animals at St. Michael's church. Pig once again made an appearance and took part in the blessing along with many animals from their church family. People brought in donations for us and we received dog and cat food, bowls, collars and leashes and toys to help us better serve the community. It was wonderful to meet such amazing people and also share our mission with them.
On Sunday the 7th, we attended Dogs Helping Dogs put on by the Norman Community Dog Park Association. We provided a microchip clinic where we microchipped 11 dogs. They also had multiple vendors, including dog adoptions, a vaccine clinic, vet clinics, photo booths, and much more. They had silent action and raffle items as well. We won a gas gift card and a gift card to a local vendor that makes cute dog stuff. So, we'll use the gas card to help us deliver supplies to many members of our community and have matching animal keychains to get us there!
On Wednesday, October 16th, we had our second monthly speaker series. This month, we hosted Wildcare's Kristy Wicker to talk to us about coexisting with wildlife. She discussed the importance of wildlife in the community, and what we should do if we find young or injured wildlife and how to best help them. Thanks to Kristy for the presentation and Stash for letting us have the event there!
Thursday, October 17th, we attended Laundry Love at Sooner Wash at 1325 E. Lindsey in Norman. Laundry Love has been an amazing partnership that we've joined with where we can provide food and supplies to communities in need. Laundry Love gives people an opportunity to come do their laundry for free, get a meal, and now, get any animal supplies they may need. We have met so many wonderful people doing this. This used to be on Saturday mornings, but is moving to Thursday evenings due to the busy football schedule in Norman.
Sunday, October 27th, we'll be attending Rose Rock Vet Clinic's Howl-O-Ween festival handing out treats and information!
While we're having a very busy month, it's also filled with fun and exciting things and we are excited to be able to be so active in our community. Want to know how you can help us with these events? Email us and tell us you want to come have fun with us, too!. We could use help with making up treat bags to hand out, making up pet food pantry food, making deliveries, answering or responding to phone calls, and assisting at events, depending on what your skills and interests are. Whatever you're good at, we can use you! And I promise, we have lots of fun, too!
